About Test DMV

Free practice tests for everyone learning to drive in the United States.

Why we built this

I built Test DMV because it matters — for everyone who drives. Learning is how we keep our roads safe, for ourselves and for our children. When I started studying for my own driver's test, I realized how much I didn't know, and I understood something simple: being a good member of our community starts with concrete decisions. Learning to drive properly, knowing the rules, respecting the signs — that's also part of building a better society. Test DMV exists so everyone has one more tool to prepare, and so that together we learn and contribute to the communities we live in.

How we create our questions

Every question on Test DMV is based on the official state driver's manual — not rewritten, not paraphrased, not guessed. For each testable concept, we write a clear multiple-choice question and include the exact excerpt and page number from the manual so you can verify it yourself. For Minnesota, we work from the official Driver's Manual (May 2025 edition). When the manual updates, we update.

Our sources

We rely exclusively on official driver's manuals published by each state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or equivalent agency. For Minnesota, that's the Minnesota Driver's Manual, published by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety — Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS).

Who's behind Test DMV

Test DMV is built by Ismael Renteria, founder of ideas2code, an independent software studio. This is not a venture-backed company; it's a product made to help. Test DMV is free because access to driving knowledge should not be behind a paywall.

Not affiliated with any DMV or government agency

Test DMV is an independent educational platform. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any Department of Motor Vehicles or government agency. The official driver's manuals we reference are publicly available documents published by each state. For official test registration, licensing, or legal requirements, consult your state's DMV directly.
